Haryana Minister Tests COVID Positive Despite Receiving Covaxin Shot
The Bharat Biotech has been conducting the trails of the coronavirus vaccine ‘Covaxin.’ As many countries are trying their best to produce a potential cure for the virus, Bharat Biotech has been showing good results.
But recently it has drawn controversy as one of its volunteers Anil Vij, the health minister of Haryana has tested positive for the virus despite getting a shot of the vaccine.
The Haryana Minister confirmed this news through a Twitter post. He said that he has been admitted to the Haryana civil hospital after testing positive for the virus.
The minister had volunteered for the vaccine trials since the first phase and his received a single shot so far. But it seems like that did not shield him from the infection. Therefore it has raised several eyebrows regarding the effectiveness of the vaccination.
Covaxin Is Effective, Says Anil Vij
Despite testing positive for COVID-19, the health minister of Haryana is still backing the vaccination. He said that his COVID-19 diagnosis does not prove that Covaxin is not effective.
He explained that Covaxin is made in such a way that it shields a person from the virus if they receive two doses of the virus. But since he had received only a single shot so that was not enough for him to remain shielded from the virus.
Even Bharat Biotech has released a statement after the claims of Covaxin being ineffective did the round. The company has explained how Covaxin actually works. It said that an individual must get two shots of Covaxin after 14 days each and only after that the vaccine starts showing its effects.
Since the Haryana minister got only a single dose, he got infected from the virus.
