Grindr trickster arrested for blackmailing people

A man was sentenced to five years in prison for robbing and blackmailing nine men he met on the dating app Grindr for sex. Anouar Sabbar, 28, would say he was an escort after having consensual intercourse with his victims and demand payment for his visit.

According to the Metropolitan Police, he took £2,360 from his victims between April 2019 and June 2021. Sabbar, from south London, has pleaded guilty to robbery, theft, blackmail, and fraud at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Sabbar fooled at least nine people by editing his Grindr profile after arriving for a hook-up.

He would show the guys his revised profile after having consensual sex, which then offered a £180-an-hour cost for escorting services, according to authorities.

Sabbar took jewellery from men’s houses in several circumstances.

Sabbar, of Southwark, south London, was detained in a hotel with his girlfriend in July 2021.

“Anouar Sabbar utilized Grindr to prey on males he thought would be too humiliated or ashamed to confront him. His behavior was ruthless, deceptive, and selfish “Toyin Akinyemi, a senior crown prosecutor, said.
