United States Women discovers $3 million lottery ticket in trash email

After accessing her spam box for an unrelated email, the United States women learned she had won $3 million (£2.2 million) in the lottery.

Laura Spears, 55, bought a Mega Millions ticket from the California lottery website after seeing the prize soar into the hundreds of millions.

“I was hunting for a lost email from someone a few days later, so I searched the junk folder in my email account,” she said to lottery authorities.

“At that point, I received an email from the lottery informing me that I had won a reward.”

“I couldn’t believe what I was reading, so I signed in to my lottery account to validate the information in the email,” United States Women explained, referring to her lotto victory.

“I certainly added the Michigan Lottery to my safe senders list in case I ever become lucky enough to receive another email offering a significant win,” United States Women explained.

In 45 jurisdictions, Mega Millions lottery tickets cost two dollars.

In 2018, a single winner in South Carolina scooped a record $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot.
