Ballston Lake, New York – A Westchester gift printing and manufacturing company is working toward a more sustainable future after agreeing a long-term solar and battery storage contract with Centrica Business Solutions.

Mines Press, an 88-year-old family business headquartered in Cortlandt Manor, NY, provides printing and mailing services to thousands of businesses, as well as managing the design and storage facilities for popular consumer brand Iscream.

Under a 25-year contract, Centrica Business Solutions will install 1.3 MW of solar energy on the roof of the 108,000 square foot facility as part of a ‘Community Solar’ project. Electricity from the panels will also power on-site batteries, which will provide clean, renewable energy during peak hours of high demand. Mines Press will participate as a commercial buyer in the Community Solar program and will purchase 40% of the credits, with the balance of excess energy being used by households, including many of the company’s own employees within the territory of the Con Edison utility, where they will receive credits to their accounts. monthly.

Centrica Business Solutions has replaced all lighting fixtures inside and outside the building with new energy-efficient LEDs, which will reduce plant-wide electricity consumption by approximately 24%, creating significant and ongoing savings for the business.

The combined project is expected to offset 1,362 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and is equivalent to 1.4 million pounds of unburned coal annually.
