Andre Leon Talley, Vogue’s longtime creative director and editor-at-large, died at the age of 73. According to his agents, the fashion writer, whose career spanned five decades, died on Tuesday in New York.
Talley was hailed as a “larger-than-life” personality in a statement posted on his Instagram profile, which acknowledged his passing “with tremendous grief.” Several members of the fashion industry, including designers and models, have paid homage.
Marc Jacobs, a designer from the United States, said he was “shocked” by the news. “You championed me, and you’ve been my buddy since the beginning,” he said on Facebook.
“You and your interests were bigger than life.”
Diane von Furstenberg, a Belgian designer, claimed no one was “grander and more soulful,” adding, “The world will be less cheerful.”
Milla Jovovich, an actress and supermodel, described Talley as a “force of nature.”
“Andre Leon Talley was not just a brilliant artist, but also one of the most truly nicest people I’ve ever encountered,” she remarked.
