Macau police arrests leading casino boss amid crackdown

Police in Macau has detained a top casino executive as part of a crackdown in the world’s largest gaming market. Authorities announced the arrest of two men on Sunday for alleged money laundering and unlawful gaming.

Macau Legend Development, which operates three casinos in the city, announced the arrest of Chan Weng Lin, its chief executive, and controlling shareholder. The move follows the November arrest of high-profile Macau casino entrepreneur Alvin Chau.

Gambling is outlawed in mainland China, although it is permitted which, like Hong Kong, is a Chinese special administrative area. “The Board does not expect the aforementioned occurrence to have a major detrimental impact on the Group’s everyday operations,” it said.
