France to implement stringent measures in the face of radical Islamism

A number of nations in the Arab region have been criticizing the President of France Emmanuel Macron as he asserted that he plans to put forth a legislation that will tackle Islamist separatism and paid homage to Samuel Paty, the history teacher who was killed for showing cartoons of Prophet Muhammad in class. Islam was called a religion in crisis by the president.

In Bangladesh and the Gaza strip, numerous protestors gathered in the streets as the President’s comments ensued in social media platforms trending with the #boycottfrenchproducts and #nevertheprophet.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey demanded to shun the French products and pulled focus to the rising Islamophobia in Europe. A number of shops have eliminated products belonging to the French brands. President Macron’s support to the prophet Muhammad’s cartoon has been denounced by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan, Qatar as they found it to be discourteous. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan also requested Facebook to bar Islamophobia and hate speech against the religion of Islam from the platform as Muslims have been subjected to abuse and disrespect on social media.

Protests in France

The murder of the history teacher sparked numerous protests across the nation of France. The murder was deemed as a betrayal of the message of Prophet by the French council for Muslim faith.

The government of France has been wanting to execute strict measures in contrast to radical Islamism in the midst of strong debates around the religion. The Foreign Minister of France, Jean-Yves Le Drian stated on Monday that the French ambassador to Turkey would be summoned to Paris for a session in the middle of increasing diplomatic tensions.

European leaders support France

Macron has been calling for unity and calm. “We are united,” he said on Twitter, “We will not give in, ever” in the English and Arabic language.

On the other hand, France has the backing of the leaders of other European nations. Erdogan’s comments were considered to be “completely unacceptable” by the Foreign Minister of Germany, Heiko Maas and the European Union High Representative Josep Borelles asserted that Turkey must “stop this dangerous spiral of confrontation.”

9% of the French population belongs to the Islam religion. A few days before the killing of the history teacher Macron gave a very controversial speech that criticized the Islam religion. The statements of Macron in the speech have known to infuriate the officials and leader of the Islamic countries.
